Along the beautiful east coast of Tasmania (southeast Australia),

the newly built "wine tasting room and observation tower of devil's horn"

Located in one of the largest vineyards in the region,

it offers panoramic views of the peninsula.

The project was designed by cumulus studio for Brown Brothers,

an Australian wine company,Strive to enhance the use of iconic landscape,

so as to create a new tourism experience on the east coast of Tasmania.

The architect will expand the small "wine tasting room" which can be disassembled flexibly,

and then increase the observation tower and food experience to provide the site for seasonal activities.

The design of the building adopts a loose wooden skin, with similar aesthetic and material handling methods,

to interpret the changes of traditional farms / villages over time.

The wine tasting room and food store enclose the courtyard space,

forming a shelter and rest place in the surrounding environment.

Through a series of carefully arranged wooden surface shipping containers,

visitors can explore the beautiful scenery in and around the vineyard through specially selected vision.

The observation tower is an important part of the design,

which not only provides the local people with a visual landmark,

but also a way to interpret the scenery from the origin of devil's horn wine.

When tasting wine, we can feel it through subtle changes of taste, a

nd the same is true for appreciating the scenery. That's the idea behind the tower,

The three different spaces correspond to the unique and different views of the site.

First, the sky, second, the horizon, and finally enter the towering tower to reach the climax through the zigzag path.

Steel is the ideal material for the project, because it can use prefabricated components

outside the site to provide time and logistics advantages for remote areas.

The structure of the ground and the tower are made up of reused and rebuilt shipping containers.

The reason why containers are selected is not only because of the modular size that is easy to transport,

Moreover, it has the characteristics of structural integrity, inherent flexibility of steel and easy transformation.

A total of 10 containers were used - 5 for the viewing deck and 5 for the store area.

The overall strength of the container is the perfect choice for the construction of the observation tower,

especially for the delivery of the structure to the site and rapid erection.

Each container is transformed in a different way.

The zigzag "sky" viewing platform adopts two parts cut from one container and reassembles them;

the "Horizon" viewing platform is a bridge between the land and the "tower" viewing platform,

But one side was cut off; the "tower" viewing deck was connected by two containers,

surrounded by steel stairs inside the container, up to the protruding platform on each side.
